Drip is the most common form of coffee served in the United States. This method essentially pours near-boiling water over medium-course coffee grounds to produce coffee. This is probably the easiest method of making coffee and advantage is that drip coffee maker produces acceptable drip coffee almost by itself. Best way short of large brewing urns to make coffee for a crowd. Disadvantage of these types of machines is that only few coffee machines brew at the right temperature for the correct amount of time.

There are two types of filter available for drip coffee, paper and metal (or plastic) permanent filter. They do produce different coffee flavors. A paper filters are very easy to clean up (just throw them away) but they will hold some of the essential oils from the coffee and sometime paper filters give coffee a papery taste. The permanent filter require a slightly courser grind, but is more durable. Use metal filter rather than plastic.

Always follow the manufacturers instructions. Just use fresh water and fill the basket to full capacity with medium, fine ground coffee for optimum brewing.
1.    Place the thick paper or metal filter into brew cone (basket).
2. Use freshly medium grinded coffee.
3. Add desired amount of coffee, depending on the number of cups you are making and the strength you enjoy.
4. Pour the water into the water reservoir.
5. Turn on. Brew time and temperature are taken care of automatically.
6. Don't steal a cup before the whole pot has brewed.
7. Swirl the pot to stir coffee before pouring the first cup.
8. Keep coffee hot in a thermal carafe, never on the heating source.

Do not allow coffee to sit for more than 10 minutes in the carafe or the aromatics, which enhance the flavour, will almost disappear.
